"Bridges Out of Poverty" Workshop
Wednesday, September 13 and Thursday, September 148:30 am - 3:30 pmGrand Oak Ballroom,
Jackson Rancheria Hotel

The 'Bridges Out of Poverty' FREE two-day workshop is coming to Amador County!  Stakeholders, community partners, consumers, family members and other organizations have identified that Bridges Out of Poverty is a priority for Amador. As a result, we have worked very hard to bring this valuable training to our community. Presented by Teri Dreussi-Smith. Training materials are provided, lunch will be on-your-own. See attached flyer for more details.

What is Bridges Out of Poverty? If you did not grow up in poverty, you may be unaware of the "hidden rules" that govern many aspects of life for the poor. People in poverty are often in survival mode, and support systems taken for granted in middle class and wealth are largely nonexistent. If your business, agency, or organization works with people from poverty, a deeper understanding of their challenges - and strengths - helps you collaborate with them to create opportunities for success.

Please register for the training by using this link - https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CNCWR7H

Child Passenger Safety Week

September 17-23

Car crashes are a leading cause of death for children 1 to 13 years old. Many deaths and injuries can be prevented by proper use of car seats, boosters and seat belts. Getting safety information and car seat instructions to parents and caregivers is crucial to saving young lives.

Grandparents:
Sharing the Care

For many families with children under 5, grandparents fill a critical need for infant-toddler child care that is trusted, affordable, and accessible.
"In 2011, 4.8 million infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in the U.S.were cared for by grandparents while parents worked or attended school. That's 24% of all children under 5, approximately the same number of children enrolled in formal child care programs.

In 2017, with support from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, ZERO TO THREE conducted focus groups with grandparents to learn more about the joys and challenges of "sharing the care." Resources were developed to share what was learned, with information designed both for grandparents and for organizations that serve grandparents and young families."
Zero to Three is an organization who's work is guided by the idea that During the first three years of life, emotionally nourishing relationships lay the foundation for lifelong health and well-being. By supporting the caring adults who touch the lives of infants and toddlers, we hope to maximize our long-term impact in ensuring all infants and toddlers have a bright future.

Upcoming Opportunities

Playground Stencils - Learning Through Movement

Physical activity supports more than fundamental movement skills in young children. By using the playground stencils for free- and teacher-led play, children gain motor skills while complementing learning in the following areas:

Social-emotional development - By participating in group activities, children learn self-awareness, self-regulation, interaction, group participation, and cooperation.

Language and literacy - By integrating letters and pictures into the playground, children practice their language use and conventions, letter recognition and letter sounds.

English-language development - By participating in free play and teacher-led activities, children have the opportunity to practice listening, speaking, letter awareness, rhyming, and color recognition.

Mathematics - By utilizing playground stencils with numbers and patterns, children can practice number recognition, counting, patterning, and measurement.

Nutrition - By integrating fruits and vegetables into the playground, healthy food choices are promoted.

Hospice of Amador & Calaveras’ 18th Annual Art Auction at Karmère - Fri Sept 22

An Evening of Art, Wine, and Culinary Delights

Hospice of Amador & Calaveras’ signature fundraising event, the 18th Annual Art Auction, is almost underway, but tickets are going quickly. On Friday, September 22, this popular affair is once again being hosted at Karmère Vineyards & Winery in Shenandoah Valley, and promises an unforgettable evening of music, wine, local art, and what looks like a sellout crowd of nearly 200 people! Tickets and a few tables of eight are still available, but they will not last long!

This elegant evening, with the backdrop of panoramic, harvest-season vineyards, will begin with a preview of raffle prizes, and unique pieces of artwork donated by talented local artists. Guests will nosh on appetizers donated by The National Hotel, sip award-winning Amador County wine, and enjoy the late-summer sunset. Dinner, graciously donated by Highway House Restaurant and Bar, and a live auction follow, giving guests an opportunity to take home inspired pieces of art, or win a lovely raffle prize, and more.

Musical entertainment donated and provided by local favorite songstress Darcel Hunter, and guitarist Gordon Rowland.

For only $70 per person, guests will experience a delightful and delicious evening, with all proceeds benefiting Hospice of Amador & Calaveras—our region’s only non-profit, independent hospice agency. For 35 years, Hospice of Amador & Calaveras has provided families with quality, compassionate end-of-life care for all who need it, regardless of ability to pay.

This event would not be possible without the generous major sponsorships and donations of venue, food and wine, music, and more. Our heartfelt thanks go out to Karmère Winery, Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort, Sutter Amador Hospital, The National Hotel, Highway House Restaurant & Bar, Assist Care Residential Communities, Calaveras Community Foundation, Dan Fields, MD, Sutter Medical Group, Plymouth Clinic, G.E.M. Electric, and Mark Twain Medical Center.

To order your tickets, call 209-223-5500, or go online to www.hospiceofamador.org. Tickets will be sold out soon so don’t delay!
